The Bodenbacher Drees in the valley of the Bongarder Bach is one of the many carbonic acid springs in the region and rises from Lower Devonian sedimentary rocks. Since 1993, a ring of basalt columns has protected the deeper spring from being flooded during floods. The enclosure was once carved from a volcanic tuff block. When and by whom is not known.
History is everywhere
The only thing that is certain is that the Romans already used such healing springs and settled in the area around today's Bodenbach. This is evidenced by the discovery of a fortified Roman villa from the third century on the eastern edge of the town. The Bodenbacher Drees is therefore also one of the stops on the history route, on which “Roman traces” can also be seen.
